As the first hotel in Hochfügen, built in 1962, the walls of our house have already experienced some amazing things. Back then, when Hochfügen was still almost uninhabitable and tough to reach, avalanches tore through the guest rooms, though miraculously, no one was injured.
It seemed to many that the people who lived there voluntarily must be truly world-weary. After all, it was even said that the infamous Pfundsgeist spirit got up to his mischief here.
Yet it was precisely during this time that the soul of our house developed. It became a place where the widest variety of people would gather. The solitary cowherd, the daredevil mountaineer or back-country skier, the holidaymaker, the hard-working lift employee, the sharp-looking waitress from Styria, the jack-of-all-trades from Bavaria, the artist from the city in search of inspiration, the host family. A place where everyone is equal. Because everyone wants to warm up a bit, scoot a little closer together. On a crisp, clear winter’s night at 1500 meters above sea level, cozily gathered around the stove, where someone comes from or what they do just doesn’t seem important anymore. What counts is the moment.
Today’s Berghotel has long since been safe from avalanches, the access road is outstanding, and Hochfügen has quietly become an exclusive winter and summer sporting destination set against a magnificent natural backdrop.
Yet a little of the defiant character of the Berghotel has remained. It is not so easily led astray, doesn’t want to copy but rather lead the way. Individuality, quality not quantity, cheerfulness not conformity.
We are a true family business, which is why we should talk about “family” for a few moments. Family is about partnership, has a lot to do with love, the joy of kids, and a good relationship between the generations. Family is important to our lives, which is why we have consciously decided that our children should grow up within the business. This makes our lives transparent, and perhaps even somewhat turbulent at times. But it is in this way that we hope to convey to our guests and employees the whole “we feeling”, and allow everyone to live as part of the extended Berghotel family in this extraordinarily beautiful place.
Being a guest at the Berghotel is also about feeling in safe hands, allowing yourself to go with the flow. Doing as your mood dictates – no constraints or obligations, as uncomplicated as possible.
We personally make every effort to ensure you feel utterly comfortable and at ease during your stay with us.
We hope to see you soon at Berghotel Hochfügen.
